Product Type Attribute - Google Base

I was curious where to fill in "Product Type Values".

I'm assuming I would use the Products Extra Fields in some capacity. If so and let's say I'm selling Toys, would I write Toys in one of the unused product fields (the Product Extra Fields under store preferences)? Then would I write it again on each individual product?

You give the extra fields the name of the attribute under Preferences > Extra Fields

You specify to use that extra field for the Google feed under Merchandising > Google > Product Search > Configure >Product Type (category):

Then in the Product you use the extra field to specify the Product Type.

Is this more efficient than telling ShopSite to use the pages the products are on as categories? Or does that really depend on how well the pages describe the category?

It depends on how many product types you have. If just a few I would leave it at default otherwise you may want to specify in a custom field.
