Possible to Offer Cross-Sell Item at It's Sale Price?

We are running Shopsite 10

We sell products that also have an option to include a cover, which is purchased separately.

If a buyer purchases a cover (and nothing else) it sells for $60. But, if they purchase our main product, we want to offer the cover for $45.

We setup the cross-sell function but can't get it to offer the reduced price when the main product is in the cart - (we can if we select sale price but then the sale price is also offered if a cover is ordered on its own OR, we can get this reduced price if we set it up as a different product but it requires manual intervention for us after the order is processed)

Any ideas on how to offer this product at a reduced price when a certain product is already in the cart?
