OK to remove core files?

Postby jbayer » Sat Jul 25, 2009 5:42 pm

I was doing some maintenance on a site today and noticed that there were a large number of core.12345 files building up in the /cgi-bin/sc directory. Each of these files is approx. 5 MB so it's taking up a considerable amount of disk space. It is safe to remove these files without damaging my ShopSite store and is there a way to disable this dumping of core files?

TIA!

Yes, you can safely remove core files.

What version of ShopSite are you using that is creating core files? These are only created if there is a problem so if you aren't using the latest version you may want to consider updating to the latest.

Saving of core files would be an OS setting so you would need to contact your server admin to see if they can be turned off.

Thanks for the quick reply Jim! I am currently running the following version:

Product: Pro
Version: 8.2.1

What version can I upgrade to without incurring any fees?

Where is your store hosted? Was it a purchased license or a monthly leased license?

Store is hosted on a Linux server which I have full access to. The license is purchased.

Thx!

The latest version you could update to without a charge is Version 8.3.1

The current version is 10 r7.2.

You can see the features added since 8.2 by going to
http://shopsite.com/help/10.0/en-US/new-features.html for 10
http://shopsite.com/help/9.0/en-US/new-features.html for 9
http://shopsite.com/help/8.3/en-US/new-features.html for 8.3
