Limit quantity purchased

Postby dazed&confused » Thu Jul 16, 2009 8:32 am

We are going to be selling swap spaces on our web site.
We have a 10 spot maximum
I want to prevent someone from going in and buying up all the spots at once.
Is there a way to have the cart limit the quantity purchased or the dollar amount allowed?
I know the cart checks to be sure the quantity is a whole number. There should be a way to add a check that the number is below a certain limit.
We need to limit the quantity purchased to 10.
I know that the customer can go back in and purchase all over again but the time it would take them to go through the proccess would slow them down and allow other people a chance.
Thanks in advance for your help.

On your add to cart you could leave off the quantity box so when they add to cart the quantity will always be one. The you can change the setting on Commerce Setup > Order System Shopping Cart > Quantity can not be changed to be checked. That way they can not change the quantity once it gets to the cart.

But that won't prevent them from adding it multiple times from the store page. You might be able to add some javascript to check if the item is in the cart several times and if it is put up a display message that they can't checkout with more than one item of that type.

Note that the above features may require the Pro level of ShopSite.

Also if you only have a certain number you would want to use Inventory tracking to prevent ordering more than that number.

We needed the the purchaser to be able to buy up to 10 spots. Our main designer came up with a fix that will work for now. The spots are a fixed price ($60) if you order more than 10 sites and go over $600.00 it adds a $100,000 shipping charge  to the order. That will stop the purchase when it hits the authorization section. (Should give them a start when they see the total as well)
