Positive ShopSite experiences?

Postby meels » Wed Jul 08, 2009 7:14 pm

After joining this forum and reading the discussions, I'm getting nervous about choosing this e-commerce solution for my customer's website.

Is ShopSite working WELL for anyone out there? Are you happy you chose it? And, if not, what are the other options.

I'm worried about customers getting errors, including internal server errors. We all know that every little error or inconvenience can scare away online shoppers.

Appreciate your feedback,
Meels

Our 4 year experience with Shopsite hosted by Lexiconn is that it is extraordinarily reliable compared with other carts and hosts we used or heard about.

What you usually see on this group are new sites struggling to get running with a very feature-rich and customizable product. Shopsite's regular enhancements also can take some effort to fully utilize. What you don't often see on this forum are the hundreds of shops that run faultlessly 99.9% of the time.

Shopsite is an excellent product.

Jeff: Thank you for your reply. It puts me at ease...a bit. I'll feel better once the internal server errors are resolved. The lost orders are also very disconcerting. We had a customer go through the customer registratio process, TRY to order products, the quantity supposedly was not what he entered, then he didn't receive a confirmation email. His order also did not show up in the backoffice. He reported his dissatisfaction with the online store and may not come back.. Hard feedback to get within days of just opening the store.

I am working with pair.com, our ISP, and sometimes I feel like the customer support is lacking or slow. Frustrating b/c I wish I could get support directly from shopsite.

The latest problem is this (I suppose I should open a new topic for this):

"USPS Message: Please enter a valid ZIP Code for the sender."

Looking at your back office under Commerce Setup --> Shipping --> Configure
U.S. Postal Service --> USPS User Info, the Zip code is listed as:

Zip Code: 570ID35HK687

You may need to use Commerce Setup --> Shipping -->Configure U.S. Postal
Service --> Re-subscribe USPS button in order to enter the proper zip code
and correct the issue.

We don't use the USPS module to compute shipping. We mostly use UPS with fixed cost shipping.

Lost orders? Every few months we'll get a customer who claims to have ordered from us but we have no record of it. Usually it's a newbie to online shopping who failed to complete the process. Sometimes they have us confused with another site. We've never had SS lose an order but we (and others here) have had a few cases several years ago where we saw duplicate orders. We process cards manually so those were easy to catch.

Many of the "bugs" complained about on this group seem to come from hosts who aren't that Shopsite-savvy or from outside of SS... Ebay or payment processors like Authorize.net which has been intermittent lately I understand.

Shopsite has had some minor problems after version upgrades but those problems have been quickly corrected by them.

We are total rookies and have been using shopsite for years. Best customer support on these boards that I have ever seen. The few problems we have had have mostly been stupid mistakes on our part and someone here usually has the answer pretty fast. I would advise going with a hosting company that offers dedicated hosting, we use shared hosting and that is the cause of the rest of our problems. We had paid a company to make our website complete with ecommerce and he ended up baling on us and our money. Was in a bind with Christmas coming so we took a chance with shopsite and my step-daughter and I got it all up and running by ourselves with abour 0 expirience, our site may not look the most proffessional but it brings in about 80% of our business. Shopsite isn't perfect but they keep trying.
