Can you put a cap on order quantity ?

hi, is there a way to cap the quantity ordered on a item. i want to sell a max of, lets say 3 of one item.

Are you talking about only selling 3 of an item to an individual shopper but more than one person could buy 3? If so, there is no way to limit the quantity that a single shopper can purchase. Even if you did limit a shopper to 3 there is nothing to prevent them from placing multiple orders each with three items.

If you are talking about only having a maximum of 3 items available - ever, then you could use the inventory tracking which would limit the number of items available to just 3. and they could all be purchased by a single shopper or by 3 shoppers.
