passing order information to thank you address (url)

Postby npinfotech » Mon Apr 13, 2009 3:42 am

I'm under the impression that it would be very helpful to be able to pass order information to the address (url) of some Shopsite pages, for tracking purposes. Is passing variables to the urls of orders a good idea? What would it take for this to happen? I'm using Shopsite Pro 9. Any help or links to material on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

As always, thank you for your time.

Because url have a limited length it is not the best idea to pass a lot of information in a url. Also passing info in a url opens up the possiblity of cross-scripting, where someone modifies the url to send a person elswhere, it should be minimized.

The shopping cart variables are passed to the thankyou cgi in two ways if you have a Pro level store. (A manager level store gets some variable passed also but not as many.) Pro level stores scan use the Order API functionality which passes all cart info as name-value pairs to a script that you create. The other method is the shopping cart javascript variables.
