Unable to View Images in SS v10

Postby efloyd01 » Fri Mar 13, 2009 1:06 pm

I have a new installation of ShopSite v10 installed by my hosting company yesterday. I am using the SS10 Curved.sst template.

I have added a page, and 2 products that each have 2 subProducts. The product information is showing up as I expect it to appear on the Product Page. Unfortunately, I am unable to view any images, buttons or products that are within the /media folder or subfolders.

I am unable to view any images in the preview the backoffice pages or the Images panel. When I select a ShopSite standard image like add_to_cart.gif, poweredbySS.gif, etc and then select the View Images button, I don't see the image, just a broken link box (little box w/ a red X and file name). I get the same result on any images that I have uploaded, as well.

Default paths for media directory appear to be correct in the Preferences>Hosting Service panel.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thank you,
Elizabeth

Sounds like permissions are incorrect on the directories. Check with you hosting company to get it fixed.

Possible SS v10 Image Link Bug?

Postby efloyd01 » Sat Mar 14, 2009 4:54 am

I contacted my hosting support and this is the response they came back with...

Not a permissions problem....I created a symlink from the location where the images are to where its creating the urls to the images. The configuration is correct but its not creating the image links correctly. The symlink is a workaround but it looks like a bug in their software. You would need to contact them if you want it resolved correctly in their software.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Elizabeth

If the ShopSite software runs with the permission of the webserver, *both* the webserver owner and your FTP owner must be able to read/write all of the media directories for you to use the directories via the ShopSite backoffice and FTP.

If your host is familiar with ShopSite, this should be easy to fix on their end. Or, if you have access to the physical media directory via FTP, you could try changing permissions on the media directory and directories under it to be world writable (chmod 777).

Response from my Hosting Company... Please Advise. Thanks.

Again, there is no permissions problem at all.

The shopsite cgi's run as the user that owns the domain. So all files/directories the shopsite cgi creates are owned by the proper user.

The problem is that it creates the static shop pages with a shopsite-images url that is not the same as it is in the control panel.

It is using:
http://www.prairieseedfarms.com/media/example.jpg

And it should be using the following, which is in the control panel:
http://www.prairieseedfarms.com/shop/media/example.jpg

I have created a symlink from /media to /shop/media but this is a workaround and not a fix for ShopSite.

Sounds like the workaround should work for you, but it seems either your Auth file is not correct, or your path set in:
Preferences -> Hosting Service

is not correct. Your host should be able to edit the .aa file in the "ss" directory to verify all settings are correct for your ShopSite installation.
