Importing fractions as product names & descriptions

Postby cyberspun » Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:52 pm

Hello,

I am trying to upload a whole bunch of products that have sizes attached to them as fractions ie: 1/2, 3/4 etc. When I get them into SS some of them are correct like 5/8 but 1/2, 3/4, 1/4 all come in with a funky character (my name) the official name is "a-circumflex" and looks like this - ¼ or ¾ very weird. Any ideas on how to get rid of the weird character before my fraction?

Thanks!

Don't used the special characters for the fractions. Put them as 1/2, 1/4, etc or use the html entities
¼ & # 1 8 8 ¼ fraction 1/4
½ & # 1 8 9 ½ fraction 1/2
¾ & # 1 9 0 ¾ fraction 3/4

Note that I inserted a space between the letters of the second column so that the browser wouldn't display the actual character.

Thanks for the help. I looked back at some of the other questions posted similar to this and found an answer about how excel is adding data to the CSV which was true. So I opened the excel file and copied it into word pad and saved as txt. Worked Great! No more weird characters.
