Multiple Dropdowns

Can I multiple dropdown but still using the "subproducts" feature? I know we can create multiple dropdowns using Ordering Options but the problem is what if one color doesn't have the size of another color. Plus using Ordering Options, I can control the quantity of the size/color of each item.

First, inventory is kept on a product basis and not on the ordering options. So if you need to keep track of how many red, large, long sleeve Tee shirts you have you need a separate product that has all of those things as part of the product description and not as ordering options.

That being said ordering options can be assigned to any product and any product can be a subproduct so you could have different options for each subproduct. The type of product template you use will partially determine if the options will be available on the store page, but the options will always be available in the cart for the shopper to select from.

I have an item called "decorative wire" - It comes in 20 different colors. To track inventory - does this mean I have to create a different sub-product for every single color?
