Saving Customer Info When Changing Ship Zip

Postby dortchjm » Sun Feb 08, 2009 4:36 pm

I know this is probably not possible, but I thought I'd check anyway just in case I'm missing some neat trick.

Quite often I get phone orders, which I enter through my website. On more than a few occassions, the original zip code that is given to me to calculate shipping is not the same one I'm given for the shipping address. An error occurs telling me to go back and change the zip code so shipping can be recalculated. The bad thing is all customer information that I just entered gets wiped out. I am then forced to go back and enter the customer information again. This is not only irritating for me, but the customer as well.

ShopSite 10 added the ability to not save the shopper information between orders. If you enable this option you will not have the zip code saved between orders so the field will be blank when you go to the shopping cart screen. Note that this is store wide so all shoppers would have to enter their payment info each time unless you have Customer Registration enabled and they sign in when placing the order.

You could also get a small javascript app that will remove cookies for the site and put it on the tool bar of your browser so all you have to do is click the button and the cookies are removed. you can get one called Zap Cookies at http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/zap.html

I'm aware of the new option in version 10. The problem is when I'm working on the same order and the wrong shipping zip code is given to calculate shipping, then when the shipping information is entered the correct one is. I press submit, and get an error that shipping zip code changed and it must be fixed to continue. When I hit the "go back to previous" button to get to the screen where shipping zip code is entered, all data is wiped out.

The data doesn't get wiped out in my browser, Firefox. What are you using?

The advantage of the remove cookies is that you would get a blank zip on the first screen so you could enter the appropriate one there so it won't need to be changed on the second screen.

For Jeff --- this option is set under Commerce Setup > Order System > Thank You and is the field named "Remove Shopper Cookie" at the bottom of the screen. Again this is a new feature in ShopSite 10.

Thanks Jim. We have SS 10 but that's a hard one to find and at the very bottom of the page. I couldn't find it it the index either.
