Adding a Product option at Check Out

Hi, I'm new to setting up shopping carts, so it's a big learning curve.

After a product is added to a shopping cart, I want to be able to offer the customer the ability to add another sub-product to the order before check-out.
I do not want them to be able to order the sub-product by itself.

Anybody know where I can get some help with this?

I do something similar using Option Menu Text. For example I sell bags with an optional strap. The strap is listed in the pull down with the price, this way they can only buy the strap if they purchase the bag.
