Target after Ordering from Search when Return 2 Shop OFF

We are having difficulty with setting the Target Page after Ordering from a Search Results Page when the Shopping Cart "Show me my shopping basket every time I order something" is not selected (turned off).

Under this situation, after ordering from the search results page, the target is defaulting to the index page for the store which throws customers several levels back to the top level of the store and tends to disorient their navigation. i.e. shoppers then must start over again from the top level.

There is a setting at Commerce Setup > Order System > Shopping Cart > Return To Shopping Button: which enables control over where the Continue Shopping button takes shoppers. This has been set to Return to the Last page ordered from and does work well but that controls the target only when leaving the view shopping basket page via the Continue Shopping button.

However, when the shopper has elected to NOT view their shopping basket every time they order something, they do not get a chance to see or select the "Continue Shopping" button and are returned to the index page automatically.

Does anyone know of a way to control the target destination after ordering from a search results page when the return to shopping button is not active? If not, does anyone know of a workaround that may assist?
