Reports in Shopsite Pro

Postby mustangfanatic » Wed Sep 24, 2008 12:18 am

I was taking a look at the Reports section in my shopsite pro. For some reason it does not work. This is what it says when I enter the Reports section. "There are problems with the Web server log file settings as indicated below. Please make the appropriate changes to rectify the problems. If you are uncertain what these settings should be to enable access to your Web server's log files, contact your host administrator for assistance."

Thanks!

Webservers can be set up in so many different ways, so the log file created by the webserver (that is parsed by ShopSite to get the traffic numbers) is not always in a standard location on each server. Which is why this error message recommends that you contact your server admin and ask them the exact location of your site's webserver log file so that you can enter it in the config screen so that ShopSite can know where to find it.

If you get the correct path and filename for your site's webserver log file and enter these in the config screen and it still doesn't work, then it is likely a permissions issue and you will need to ask your server administrator to make sure that your site's web user can read and execute the directory the log file is in and can at least read the log file itself.

If your website has it's own log file, leave this blank.

If your site shares a log file with other sites, then you would want to put something about the URLs that is unique to your store in this field so that the Reports feature will only count the hits to your store.

In most cases these days, though, hosts have configured their sites so that each site has its own log file so it is unlikely that you will need to worry about putting anything in this field.
