froogle- bulk.xml how can I use different name

Postby Mannon » Wed Sep 17, 2008 11:07 am

Hi
I have a trouble in Google, I can not create Data feeds under the name of
froogle-
bulk.xml in order to send my information from a shopsite 9.0.
Every time I am trying to create it, it says
Oops! There was an error with the page you requested. Please check
back later.

I've deleted previous file with the same name, however I can't use
another filename because ShopSite transfers froogle-bulk.xml file to
Google.

The question, how may I change the data file name "froogle-bulk.xml" into something else and send this data from ShopSite to google froogle?
Thanks

The only file that ShopSite will build and send is "froogle-bulk.xml" There is no option to change it.

If you want to send a different file name you would need to manually create it and upload it.

Thank you for your response.
Is there any way I can change a code in ShopSite so the file name will be changed?
How can I create an xml file manually?
Thanks

No the name can't be changed.

Any text editor could be used to create an xml file. You could also write an application that would create the file.

What data feed method are you using, API or FTP? Each file has it's own name. Or are you perhaps trying to create a google site map?

froogle-bulk.xml

Postby cbell11 » Wed Sep 24, 2008 9:00 am

I have been trying since this past Friday to have Shopsite send the Froogle Feed to Google. Shopsite completed and lists the amount of products but Froogle / Base never shows any feeds to be processed.

Contacted my provider to see if I can have the froogle-bulk.xml file sent to me or atleast have access to where it's stored so I can manually upload it and so far no luck getting ahold of the file.

Is there a way to convert the .txt file that shows up when you click on the link in the Froogle feed section to see what the feed that was sent over contained?

It looks like I found the problem. My reseller provider is still on 8.3 so the new patch that fixed the issue hasn't been applied..

If you go to Merchandising -> Google -> Product Search (or Froogle, in v8.3) and click on the Fed Last Submitted date, that should take you to a screen that has a link at the top that says 'Click here to view the original datafeed', which if you click will show you the contents of the file that was last submitted to Google Base.

If you are using the FTP mechanism, you should be able to copy this data and create a new file in notepad and paste this data in and save the file as froogle-bulk.xml, then you can manually FTP this file to your Google Base FTP account using your own FTP client.

Note that if the file is being rejected by Google Base because of something it doesn't like in the content/format of the file, then you will have to figure out what the problem is based on the error messages in your Google Base account, and manually make those corrections in the file before FTP'ing it to Google Base. That, or ask your host to upgrade your ShopSite to a newer version :-)

Thanks Loren. I will give that a try. I tried it once and google came back saying no live products when I copied the data into notepad and renamed. I will give it another try and make sure I did it correctly.

Yeah my provider's response to the trouble ticket I opened was to read the help files located here at Shopsite to make sure I am doing it correctly... I sent them the notice that a patch was released but they had to be updated to the new version to benifit from the patch.

It's about time to switch to a new provider I think that knows about Shopsite and stays with the current version..

Thanks for reply. This is how I do it. I go to my back office > Merchandising Tools > Google > Product Search > and than I save "Feed Last Submitted" in XML format, than I upload this file to google but it says about errors in thousands of lines in file. I'm confused, this was the only reason I've upgraded my shopSite. What else can I do?

What are the errors that are reported by Google?
