Win 2003 Server install issue

Postby dmichels » Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:00 am

I'm trying to install an evaluation on Win 2003 Server SP2 and the exe fails with a "This program cannot be run in DOS mode".

Anyone have a similar issue?

How are you trying to run it? I just have the install file on the desktop double click on in it and it runs fine.

Verify that the file size is the same for the downloaded version and the one on the ftp server to make sure it wasn't corrupted by the download.

Just "double clicking" the as would a normal win .exe from the directory created from the extraction of the FTP'd .zip

The file size is: 15,994,252 bytes after extracting from the .zip file downloaded from your site (I was not the one that downloaded, however, the software was handed off to me for install and eval)

If you got a .zip from the ShopSite FTP site, then you got the wrong thing. The Windows 2000/2003 Server install from the ShopSite FTP site is a .exe file (setup.exe, to be exact), and the latest version (v9.0.3) is 15,815,707. Since this is smaller than yours (and all previous version of ShopSite would have an even smaller filesize) then it would seem that your file is not a valid install file.

Thx much for the reply, Loren...

The install file is the "setup.exe", but I'm guessing that it was packaged in a .zip file as there was an included patch .dll and .cgi within that particular install (which the documentation stated that the install would apply the patches at the end of the installation).

Regardless it sounds as though the setup.exe is not valid, so I'll see if I can get a new version. Plausible that the person that downloaded may not have correctly set the transfer type to 'binary' in their FTP session w/the shopsite server.

Does shopsite post a checksum (MD5/SHA1) for these install files anywhere? That would make me feel monumentally better about these installs...

Yeah, an ASCII download of the .exe could explain the corruption and the larger filesize.

Also, note that an ASCII download would have corrupted the patch files as well, so those are probably no good either. And the install program will not automatically apply the patches after the install is complete, applying the patches is something you will have to do manually after the install completes (it's generally just a matter of replacing the files of the same name with the patch files).
