Help with Search Results

Postby vwdforums » Tue Jun 24, 2008 12:02 am

Hello All,

I have a website that I added the search feature to. The searching part works fine. However when it displays the results I want to create a link back to the page within the site that the product is on. This site is customized (not using smarthtml either). Therefore if I enable More Info pages it wants to go to the store directory. The page isn't in the store directory so therefore I get a page not found.

Then I had the idea that I could change the link on my Button Customization under the Edit Product Layout. I made the link to my "View Cart Button" read the link on the site that contains the product details. Then I changed my text to say [view details]. I unchecked "More Info" page so the only links would be on the Buttons themselves. However, even though the link reads the correct page the action taken on the "View Cart Button" is still putting the item in the shopping cart.

I just need to link back to my http://www.website.com/page.shtml instead of going to the store and looking for the page there. Let me know if I can answer any questions to clarify this issue. Thanks so much for your help.

What do you have the "Search Destination" for the product set to? (note this is a Pro only feature so if you have a manager store this isn't a setting you will find).

What is a link to a page we can search from and see the issue?
What do you mean by " This site is customized" Is is using ShopSite Custom templates or are you using the OrderAnywhere feature?

I tried setting the search destination to store but that didn't work so then I tried the More Info pages but since I can't correctly link to the more info pages that didn't work either.

I am using orderanyhwere tags.

Here's a link. Goto http://www.howellmotorandpump.com in the search box on the home page type in generator. It's the only product I have indexed right now since I'm testing this feature. I want the View Details button to link to the generators page which is not in the store but rather the same level as the home page.

Thanks for the quick reply. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

The "view details" is the same as a view cart for your store and probably can't be changed to do what you want. If you don't want the view cart to display you can modify the product template and delete that part.

What you need to do is set the products search destination to the url that your page is located at. Then the link generated by the search results (on the search for "generator" it is displayed as "hmp" below the product info) will take the shopper to the url you specify for the product.

Hi Jim,

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. I tried it and it worked! I just have one last wrap up question. I setup a second product to index and when the search results come back they wrap. I've tried setting "inline" for the search template, putting <br> in the searchresults template and changing word wap to "no" under product layout but they still wrap making it difficult to tell one product from the other. Any ideas on how to fix this one?

Thanks in advance.

The "inline" template is an old C based template and may not work well with the custom templates. Where did you put the <br> in the template?

It should probably be in a section of code like this. (note that I didn't test this so you may need to tweak it a bit.
[-- LOOP SEARCH --]
[-- IF SEARCHPRODUCT --]
<br>
[-- END_IF --]
[-- SEARCHRESULT --]
[-- END_LOOP SEARCH --]
