Can all carts be automatically populated with an item

I would like all shopping carts created by customers to be populated with one of my items. Is this possible?

If not, does anyone have a better suggestion than hard coding the part info into the product table under the headings in the cart?

It is not possible to add a single item to all carts. Also there is no way to add it to the product table without have the shopper click an add to cart link. That table is not editable directly.
