Is my URL stuck as an IP?

Post by Packer »

Hey Guys,
The guys at SD360 set up my website and at the moment its running from the URL http://69.94.124.198/, however eventually I want the user to be able to get through via http://packer-products.co.uk (Which we own).

I can easily get the URL to point to our website, but I need all the links to also represent the site. Unfortunatley the site links are not relevant, they are absolute, meaning they are like http://69.94.124.198/packer-equipment.html.

Do I have my work cut out for me?

I have tried to contact the developer.. But its been over a week, and they havent come back to me..

Cheers for any help :)

Is My URL Stuck as My IP

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your developer. I always wonder why a web-based business wouldn't respond more promptly to e-mails.

It sounds like the numeric IP address is hard-coded into your pages. Have you tried a Re-Publish via the Shopsite backoffice since updating? You may also have to have your hosting company make some changes to the Hosting Service settings under "Preferences--Hosting Service."

I assume your store is using Custom Templates. A closer look at the custom templates would show what really needs updating.

Depending on how your designer created the templates, the base URL of the links may depend on the authorized URL in your ShopSite license file. In this case, once your domain name has been pointed to the new site, they can just generate a replacement license file for your store that uses the domain instead of the IP and then regenerate the store pages and that should change the links.
