Strange Shopsite Error Message

I am getting a strange "shopsite message" in my shopping cart when i try a test order, and it makes NO sense to me what so ever.

Have any of you had the error message

"Please copy the number from the image" ??


anyone know what this means , or how it can be fixed?

Sounds like you have enabled the "Human Validation:" feature found on Commerce Setup > Payment screen near the bottom of the screen.

This is a security feature to try to prevent an automated process (or slow down a person trying to guess credit card info) from placing orders on your store. You should see a small image with some text or numbers in it that need to be entered in the box provided before the shopper can check out.

This message was popping up because we had made 5 attempts to see if our other Credit Card processing problem we are currently having has been fixed (which it hasn't yet)

Note that the user said it "makes NO sense." I'm guessing that they didn't know what to do with it just like our customers don't know what to do with it...
because there is NO IMAGE TO BE SEEN and NOTHING TO COPY IT INTO so one is left to just scratch your head wondering what to do.

We've had customers complain about this off and on for weeks and I couldn't understand what they were talking about. No telling how many orders we lost. I kept thinking they must be on somebody else's website because I couldn't find anything in the documentation that mentioned this capability. I guess I couldn't come up with the right words to search for.

Is there something one needs to do to get an image and an input field to show up? Is this a template issue?

Can you post the steps to reproduce the problem on your store?

Note to enable this feature you go to Commerce Setup > Payment and at the bottom of the screen there is a section Human Validation that configures this option.

Also the text for the messages can be customized on Preferences > Store Text > Checkout in the section called:
Security
To help prevent fraud enter the number displayed below. :
Please copy the number in the image.:

Here are the template tags that display the image and fields if the feature is enabled:
Human Validation Image
[-- IF SecurityImage --] True if the human validation image feature is enabled
[-- ShipSecurityImage --] Includes the human validation image elements on the payment screen.
