UPS OnLine Tool unavailable

UPS OnLine Tool unavailable. Anyone seen this type of error before? Is this a shopsite issue or UPS? I can no longer process UPS Shipping through my site. I attempted to re-register my UPS account, but I get the same error.

This was the response we got back from UPS: But we do not know how to proceed. Any ideas out there?

This technology enables UPS to provide faster content delivery and application performance in a secure, controlled fashion. Starting April 1, 2008 UPS will begin a phased deployment of this new technology. The deployment will finish May 6, 2008.

If you are experiencing a sudden problem receiving UPS OnLine Tool responses from UPS and you have specific firewall rules set up to allow communication back and forth with UPS, it could be because of the implementation of the Akamai content delivery network (CDN).

If you believe that you may be impacted by the implementation of Akamai, you may connect directly to UPS by posting your XML requests to the following URL: https://onlinetools.ups.com/ups.app/xml/[ToolName] instead of
https://www.ups.com/ups.app/xml/[ToolName].

What exact version of ShopSite are you using? You can find the version number listed in the footer in the main menu of your ShopSite backoffice (you can get to the main menu by click on the green 'ShopSite' tab in the upper left-hand side of the navbar).

You could try upgrading to at least v8.0.2 or newer because the following fix made in that maintenance release may be related:

* Fixed a UPS problem for ShopSite merchants hosted outside of the United States caused by a difference in the response formatting from UPS's new non-US datacenters.


If you still have the problem in a newer version, it may be something you will have to get your host involved with to see if they have any static routing to UPS's servers in place that would be affecting this.

Note that I tested UPS shipping in my own stores and several others that I know are using UPS, and it still works. So it doesn't appear to be a problem for all ShopSite merchants.

Thanks for the insight. I am working with my host to upgrade ShopSite. I will update the forum with the results.
