How to control field length for Address

The ShopSite field length for Address Line 1 and 2 is longer than the Address fields in the UPS World Ship Software, so the addresses often truncate and are then incorrect. The UPS World Ship Software has only 35 characters for the Address line. How do I change the the Address field length in ShopSite to 35?

The size of the box can be set on Commerce Setup > Order system > Checkout. But that does not limit the number of characters that can be entered in the field. I think to do that you would have to add some style or javascript to check the input to see that it would not allow more than the number you want.
