I am wondering if it is possible to do some of the following:
1. Limit page view based on whether a customer is registerd?
2. Limit page view based on a customers group?
3. Is there an api for changing a customers group?
4. Is there a way to assign discounts to customer groups? (like 10% off)

1. Limit page view based on whether a customer is registerd?
Not from the ShopSite registration, but you could password protect directories (assuming you have server access) and just give that password to registered users.
2. Limit page view based on a customers group?
No.
3. Is there an api for changing a customers group?
No, the only interface is through the backoffice of your store Commerce Setup > Customer Registration >Groups.
4. Is there a way to assign discounts to customer groups? (like 10% off)
You can create coupons and assign them to a group and when someone in that group signs in the coupon will be automatically added to the cart.
