Mix of regular html pages and ShopSite generated pages

Postby CarolA » Mon Feb 11, 2008 7:01 am

Without knowing exactly how it will work, I'm planning to have a mix of regular html pages and ShopSite generated pages on my website. At least that's how I do it now with Mercantec Softcart. 90% of my pages are built by me and FTP'd up to the server. I just link to the SoftCart shopping cart and other store functions with tags.

However, I don't know if this will work with ShopSite. 2 questions - can I test this with the demo store I have now? I tried to ftp up an html page to the demo store URL, but it wouldn't let me.

Or, if I can't test it myself, can someone tell me? Are there any problems with links back and forth between the pages? Can I place a ShopSite search box on my non-SS pages? What about a "shopping cart" link? I want it to be seamless - not have a "go to online store" on my regular website pages.

Thanks so much.

There should be no problem mixing ShopSite generated pages with manually created pages (as long as the file names aren't the same). You would have to create all links between the two different types of pages but that shouldn't cause any problems.

You can put the ShopSite search form on your own pages by copying and pasting the code from a ShopSite generated page. Note that only ShopSite generated pages will be included in the indexed products so you will probably need to have at least 1 ShopSite page with all products so they all get indexed. You can set the search destination to a url so that when a search returns a result that is on one of your non-ShopSite generated pages the link will go to the correct url.

Shopping cart links can also be placed anywhere as can add-to-cart links using the code generated by the Order Anywhere functionality.

The demo stores don't allow ftp so you won't be able to test this using ftp.

I have a Dreamweaver template. How to import just store?

Postby bluenote15 » Wed Feb 13, 2008 10:39 pm

Greetings.
I have a series of pages I have created in Dreamweaver and uploaded. They are typical: "about us", "contact us", etc.

How do I just get the STORE portion of the ShopSite to just appear in the body of one of my pages, so that the rest of my template is static, but the cart changes dynamically within the body?

Not sure if that made sense, but...
Thanks!

Christine,

You could use frames and load the Shopsite pages in the main frame with navigation, etc in surrounding frames.

Another option is to incorporate the code (or an include file) for the static data into the Shopsite page Header and Footer fields.
