Single Sales Tax for all sales - no matter where shipped

Postby editor » Sat Feb 09, 2008 10:24 am

We sell entertainment passes for use in Scottsdale, AZ.

Arizona law requires that sales tax be charged on all items that will be used in Arizona ...no matter where they are shipped.

Is there some way I can lock in the zip code for all sales ... (maybe via a hidden value ?) so that the same percentage of sales tax is charged on all orders?

Two suggestions.
1. Just include the price of the sales tax in the price for the item. So the final purchase price will be the price of the pass and the tax. Put a note in the product description that states the price includes taxes.
2. Set the sales tax for all states to be what is required for Arizona and enable the tax option for all states.

If you sell more than just the passes you would probably need to use the first option since other products should not be taxed if shipped outside the state. It is my understanding that interstate sales are regulated by federal law and does not allow a state to charge tax for merchandise shipped to other states unless a the business also has a presence in the second state. I can see how tickets would possibly get around this by only being usable in the state where they are sold even if shipped outside the state.
