Shopsite and Paypal Website Payment Standard

Postby glenn » Thu Jan 24, 2008 6:04 pm

I read the instructions in the user manual and it says that you can use Paypal Website Payment Standard with Shopsite to accept Paypal customers and credit card customers without requiring a merchant account. The instructions then explain when a user clicks on payment using PayPal they will be taken to the PayPal screen to complete their order.

Is it safe to assume if the customer clicks on a credit card payment they will also be taken to that same PayPal screen and they will select the credit card of their choice and enter their personal information to complete the transaction there as well?

I am trying to figure out the disadvantages of having PayPal handle my transactions and not dealing with a merchant account and clearing house or the $30 monthly recurring fee and it sounds to good to be true.

Thanks Glenn

If you have both PayPal and credit cards enabled in your store and a shopper chooses to use a credit card from the payment options they will NOT be sent to PayPal unless you are using PayPal Website Payments Pro. PayPal Website Payments Pro acts like a normal credit card processor and does have a monthly fee as well as a per transaction fee.

Paypal Website Payment Standard will show up in the cart as PayPal and when the shopper chooses that method they will be sent to PayPal where they can use a credit card.

You can get more information on these methods at
