Digital Downloads and Check Payment

Postby dlcllc » Thu Jan 03, 2008 3:04 pm

I have a Pro version of ShopSite (7.0) and am wondering if it is possible to modify the check payment method. Right now, if someone says they will pay by check, the system still generates the download link that allows them to access the coursework they are purchasing. I'd like to prevent this until we actually receive their check, so I'm wondering if there is some way to do this.

No it is not possible to modify the Check payment method to do this. You should turn off the automatic sending of the download link when the order is placed and send the link manually after you have received payment. Note that it has to be the same for all payment methods so you can't turn it off just for check orders.

Digital Downloads and Check Payment

Got it - thought so, but wasn't sure. Is there any possibility that could happen in future revisions? Seems to make sense to have that ability. I know I can turn off the entire thing, but with credit card payments being the primary source of funds, I'd hate to have to do that. Such flexibility would be very welcome by me, and I'm sure by others.

I second that suggestion.

We've had several users use eCheck through PayPal, which then doesn't clear. they've already gotten their download, and we're left with nothing. We then have to delete their order so that they can't come back and use the link again..but that messes up my accounting.

It would be nice if a download link could be turned on and off - regardless of payment method. Sometimes we get chargebacks -- rather than deleting the order, I'd like to be able to turn off the link and leave a note about the chargeback.

I think you can disable acceptance of eChecks in your PayPal account.

You can also turn off automatic delivery of the download links (i.e. don't have them displayed on the thankyou receipt screen or the email receipt), then manually click the Send Keys button on the View Orders screen for the order when it clears.

Also, if you use the PayPal Standard method of accepting payments with PayPal, then the order won't complete in ShopSite (and therefore no email receipt sent with the download links yet) until the transaction has fully cleared into the merchant's account.

Well, we want to keep taking eChecks... and I don't want to have to manually send links, since we get orders at all hours of the day and night. We don't use PayPal standard...we have a merchant account so we're out of luck there too.

I'd just like to be able to turn off a download link without having to delete the order. Also, it would be great to see how many times the link was used. I know there's a counter in the system, since it turns off after X number of tries. I'd like to be able to see how many tries have been used...and even be able to increase the number of downloads allowed (or decrease) instead of having to issue a new link when someone runs out of attempts.

So, in short:
I would like more control over my download links: The ability to turn them on and off at will, the ability to see how many times a link has been used already, and the ability to increase the number of uses (or decrease).

It also would be great to have different behaviors based on the payment method. If it's an eCheck, don't send the link, but instead send an explanation of the delay or something. Otherwise, send the link.

Thanks for the reply!
