All page information, product information, orders, coupons, gift certificates etc are stored in the ShopSite provided database. There is no option to use another database or to add tables to the ShopSite database.

What kind of data would you need to add for your site?

Upload file for Database

Postby priscila » Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:14 am

Can I store customer information into the ShopSite Database ? If yes , then how?
Another thing, suppose I want to add some products ( in a file ) into the Products table of ShopSite DB. How can I do it? Should that file be in .txt format ? I tried to do this. But, it shows some error like "The record below has 100 tabs instead of the correct number of 101."
What is the correct format ?

In the Pro level of ShopSite there is a customer registration feature which allows shoppers to create an account for themselves. There is no way for the merchant to add multiple people.

Under Utilities > Database there is an upload optiion in Pro and Manager level stores. Product information and Page information can be uploaded through tab delimited text files or in xml format. The problem you mention regarding incorrect number of tabs is caused by the application that created your text file. See this knowledgebase solution for more details.

You could add a product and page to your store manually and then download the pages and Product under Utilities > Database to see a listing of the proper format. There is also a help page that you can access by clicking on the red ? on each backoffice screen to get information about that page. The help link for Pro level page and product upload fields is

Suggestions?

Postby kenford08 » Mon Oct 29, 2007 10:47 am

Hello!

I am also new to shopsite. i've been following your topic and i also have a question regarding the shopsite flow. What about if I have many tables in another kind of e-commerce site (Volusion) - which has different kinds of tables used in its database example: products, categories, vendors etc. Since there is no way we could add a table in shopsite database, could you suggest a way in which the data could be preserved and still be used in shopsite even without adding tables? example the product and category relationship, could you suggest a way in which products could still be part of a categories.

thank you

in addition to my question.. i forgot to tell - the intention of this is to, perhaps, export data from other ecommerce sites to shopsite
