two index.html files after publish

Postby merlin100 » Sun Aug 12, 2007 10:13 am

I am trying to help a friend with her new Shopsite store and there is a problem I can't solve. She has already asked her customer service folks at her hosting company about this and they just do a temporary fix of renaming or removing the extra index.html file, but it always comes back later.

Some time after she does a regenerate or republish, she gets two
index.html files in her /shopping directory. One of them has a space added after the .html and is not the same date/time as the other index.html file.

The index.html file without the space is not being updated after publish.

Her Shopsite files were installed by her hosting company in in a directory called /shopping.

I made another index.html file and put it in the root directory so anyone that did an address bar type in for her mystore.com could get to her site and then click on a ENTER STORE link to go on to her shopping/index.html page.

I also see that there are two index.google---.html files in that directory
one also has a space after the .html and an older date/time

Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

One other thing I've noticed today was that many of her product pages are not being updated after regen or publish.

I have changed the index.html file in her root directory to welcome.html
thinking that might have something to do with the double index.html pages showing up in her /shopping directory, but that didn't seem to help either.
Her website is at
http://www.artisan-wirewrap-jewelry.com ... index.html

Thanks,
Mike

Check all pages in the store to see what they have set for " File name:" in the Advanced Info section of the Edit Page Content screen. If you find 2 with index.html remove one of them and make sure that the other doesn't have a space before or after the name.

In a Pro store you can do a search for the "File Name" field and it will display the filename and the page name to make it easier do find index.html

Also, check the Merchandising -> Custom Pages menu and make sure no 'index.html' file is listed here (or if there is and this is the one you want, then you should remove the page with the assigned filename of index.html from the Pages menu as described by Jim).

In Shopsite her HOME page in advanced info area had a space after the index.html name
And she had renamed the html files of the pages that were not regenerating so that explained that,
Thank You for your help,
Mike
