Digital downloads as a gift

Is it possible to have a digital download sent to some one other than the purchaser?
My customer has Shopsite Pro 8.3 and would like people to be able to order his product and have it sent to a friend as a gift using Shopsite.

Not currently possible, however, the purchaser could send the download link to the gift recipient.

Note that the email receipt is sent to the email address specified on the Billing screen so if the shopper enters the email address of the person they want the gift sent to they would get the email with the download link.

You could also configure the product to have a text field on the shopping cart screen (Products > edit Product Info > Customer Text Entry Box:) and ask the shopper to enter the recipient email address in that field if the product is a gift. Then when you process the order you could use the "Send Keys" function of the Digital download to send the link to the recipient. This would take a little more work for each order but would work.

Also, I believe the download link (or at least the download key, I'm not positive which) may be available in the variables provided to the Order API, so with some custom programming for the Order API feature you could create your own emails receipt, and perhaps send it to a gift recipients's email address specified by the shopper via, for example, a Custom Checkout Field or the product's Customer Text Entry box.

So again, not a built-in feature, however with custom programming on your part it could be possible.
