I'd like to have something similar to my products pages but i can't find the options.

Try changing the search product template (Preferences > Search Settings > Search Layout > Product Template Override:) to use the one your products are using instead of the default value.

How far along is your search utility?

"ford" came up with a lot of cars. "fords" returned nothing.

same thing with truck/trucks. most searches are in the plural.

Thanks Jeff, you are right, i have to set keywords in plural to.

I have an other problem : I ve checked the SKU in the "indexing configuration" of the search indexing page but my search tool doesn't seem to work when I type the SKU for a product.

How can I solve this ?

thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of Lexiconn's search stats module:

Did you look to see if there's some way to switch sku search on and off? Our products are searchable by SKU ( I just checked)

Also if your SKUs are all numbers make sure you have the Index numbers option checked.

i am having a similar problem, but only in firefox. when i do a search in explorer, it seems to be fine.

www.midweststereo.com is the site. do a search for denon or digidesign, or anything really. those just have enough products to show the difference.

anyway, the products list fine in explorer, but in firefox they tab over a column on each consecutive result, making about 5 products listing before they go back to the left and start the process over again.

any ideas? i've gotten this problem reduced to what you see now. it originally caused the page to expand by about 300% of the monitor width. i can temporarily live with it the way it is, but i do need to find some solution. the first part was solved by fixing some tags in the search template. i then switched from Default Page Template (which i could not actually find in the templates directory) to search_link in the link template override box, and that helped greatly. it solved the problem completely in explorer, but you see the result still left in firefox.

any ideas?

Jim >>> thank you, I forgot to check this box
Now I can search my motorcity cars easy by entering the sku code but my Sunstar models don't display when I type for example 4801 ; they just display if I type SS4801 that is the complete code of the product.
I d like them to display even if a customer doesn t type the "SS".

I think I have to enter 4801 as a keyword

Jeff >>> I ll check later this but I m hosted at Verio.

I need result now and I want to launch the site as quick as possible even if there are still some problems.

Thank you

On the Preferences > Search Setttings > Search layout screen in the Advanced Search section under Search Terms Are: check the box for Auto new search with stems if nothing found. Then in the section below that check the boxes before and after STEM.

What will now happen when a search for 4801 is done it will not find 4801 by itself so it will do a new search looking for 4801 with something before or after it and it should now find SS4801.

Note that adding specific keywords that you know your shoppers may search for to the Search Keywords for the products you want them to find for those searches may still be better than relying on the 'stemming' function, because if 4801 is found in some OTHER product by chance, then the product with just SS4801 in it will not be found because the 'stemming' search will only be performed if there were no results for the exact original search term.

Ok thank you,

In a fist time, I m going to apply the "auto new search with stems if nothing found" and then I will add keywords for each product when I 'll have the time.

I need to have quick results for my website and I didn't sell anything yet.

I m new in website editing and I don't want to be fired :(

Thank you for all your help
