Bug: 8.3 chokes on some orders from Scandinavia

Postby dgray » Thu Jun 21, 2007 4:47 am

Up until April 2007 Shopsite 8.2 (and 8.0) had successfully processed orders from such countries as Norway and Denmark which include characters such as ø, æ, å etc. in the names or addresses.

However since we installed 8.3 on 4/24/07 we have had two failed orders, one from Denmark and one from Norway. Both failed orders included a ø character. The Payment Processing Error that the customers got after submit is as follows:

Error: SGS-020003: Invalid XML

Replacing the ø character with a o caused the order to complete successfully. I'm thinking you broke something in the 8.3 release because we've had no problems with orders which include the letter ø or other Scandinavian characters up until then.

See my reply to post http://support.shopsite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3194
where I tested the use of those characters in all product and shopping cart fields and did not have any problems.

This must be a browser or computer setting specific error. What browser were the shoppers using? What keyboard did they have defined for their windows machine? What language version of Windows were they using? Can you repeatedly cause this to happen with the same settings as your shoppers used?

Hi Jim

I think it's actually a payment gateway thing as the SGS-020003 error originates from LinkPoint. Now I do know that you fixed a bug for me in the 8.3 release and this was also to do with the LinkPoint gateway so I'm thinking this new bug is a possible side effect of the last fix. You may remember the last fix, it was for "Error SGS-005003: The order already exists in the database".

My site is US based so the descriptions are in English and it's only customers from Scandinavia that are so far having problems. I did enter the last order myself using Firefox 2.0 browser and definitely confirm that when I replaced the ø character with an o the order went through. With the ø I got the SGS-020003. I just tried another test order in Firefox 1.5 and ditto. With an ø in the address I get the SGS-020003 error, without the ø no error.

It does seem like this problem appeared in 8.3 because up until April we were getting orders with such accented characters. After installing 8.3 on 4/24/2007 we have received two complaints and I don't see a single accented character in Scandinavian orders which probably means most of the customers from these countries are probably realizing the problem without telling me and removing the suspect characters themselves.
