Shopsite Custom Templates and CSS

It seems many of the Custom Shopsite Template tags that deal with formatting (font, style, color, size, etc.) still create HTML-based formatting tags.

Are there any plans to convert some of these tags to a more CSS-friendly style?

I know that I can create my own CSS files and formatting
and not use the custom template format tags, but this would result in a loss of the ability to adjust the appearance via the Back Office interface.
