Sales Tax - Automatically Add Based on Destination?

I thought I saw a post on here before regarding this topic, but unable to find it now.

Is there a way to automatically add sales tax to an order based on the shipping destination? Or does it have to be added based on a pull-down menu?

Since my business is based out of Michigan, I'd like to automatically add 6% sales tax to all orders being shipped to Michigan, 0% otherwise. Right now my customers have to select from a drop-down box that says "I live in Michigan - Add 6%" or "I do not live in Michigan - 0%".

Commerce Setup > Sales Tax Set it to use ZipCode based tax. Then set your tax rate for the states you need to collect tax in. You also need to check the box in front of that state so the rates will be used.

Note that prior to v8.1, ShopSite Starter did not have the tax-by-zip feature (was only in ShopSite Manager and ShopSite Pro). So if you have Starter older than 8.1 you would have to upgrade to get it.

I've got it working now...

I also have flat rate shipping, any way to remove the "shipping" drop-down box?

I still need the tag [--SC_Tax_Shipping--] for the sales tax zip code box, but I really don't need the "shipping" box.

Does this tag support the "delete" option?

This tag does not support any additional parameters. If you only have one shipping option, then I would suggest the following settings in Commerce Setup -> Shipping:

1) set 'Display Shipping Options As' to the 'Radio buttons' option.

2) set 'Default Selected Shipping Option' to 'First Displayed Option'.

So instead of a shipping pull-down it will be a radio button list (of one, in your case) and the first option (the only option, in your case) will be preselected for the shopper so they don't have to do anything to get the default shipping rate.

That's another option... my drop-down list is only 1 item big and the only item is the default shipping, so that's no big deal. Was just wondering if the shipping options (when set to "flat rate") could be removed completely from the screen.
