transfering cart from installed to custom template

Is it possible to go in to an existing page and change the template that it is assigned to?

All I can figure out is to delete the old page then create a new one on the custom template, with the same name and URL, then assign products to it.

That's working but it's time consuming and ShopSite seems to take about 15 minutes for the new page to show up in my site directory after I've re-created and published it.

To change the template on a page go to Pages > Edit Page Layout. The template selection list is the first item in the Layout Info section.

Once you change the template then you need to publish so the page will have the new look.
