UPS shipping not in balance with ups.com

We are using UPS for our shipping.
Problem: the shipping is not matching UPS amounts for weight (tested our cart against UPS.com).

example: based on ground shipping
Item 1 weighs 8# going from 60610 to 90210
cart shipping = $9.37 (set for UPS shipping)
actual UPS shipping = $10.87

Qty 2 of Item 1 = 16# 60610 to 90210
cart shipping = $13.84 (set for UPS shipping)
actual UPS shipping = $17.41

Where do I differentiate packaging in one box for one item and 2 boxes for 2 items, etc?

If each item must be in its own box then on the Edit Product Layout screen configure the product to use a box and specifiy the size.

Shipping rates displayed in the cart are what UPS return based on the settings you have configured for UPS in ShopSite. One ehing that can make a difference is if you have configure to go to a Business but the you are shipping to a residence since they charge more for residential than business delivery.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought that entering box size might be the answer but wasn't sure. I'll give it a try & see if we can get closer to the actual charges.

...the weights for all products has been entered, but the shipping does not seem to add for the additional weight. Some of these items can be shipped in the same box so what then?

it's about $4.00 off in the customers favor - will adding box sizes correct this?

The more probable causes of the difference in the rate quote that is returned to your shopping cart and what you see on the UPS site is the UPS delivery type (residential vs. commercial) and the UPS pickup type (Daily Pickup,
Customer Counter, One Time Pickup, On Call Air, Letter Center).

Assigning products a box size will cause a separate shipping rate to be returned for each product. This will probably about double the rate of shipping both products in a single box (depending on the weight of the product).

This appears to be irrelevant in our case, because just as mkcardenas, mentioned, even though our UPS delivery type etc matches up, the difference is still more than $4.00 in favor of the customer when we ship more than 1 qty of an item.

So this means that it is more profitable to calculate shipping by box qty rather than weight? And one should configure the products shipping charges to be calculated based on box and not weight, since the weight methodology is obviously incorrect.?
