Publishing Pages

Postby kolivet » Fri Nov 10, 2006 12:44 pm

We just recently starting working with ShopSite and plan to use Page and Product templates to recreate the pages within our site that have products for purchase on them.

I set up a new page titled "products_equipment.html" that uses our newly developed Page and Products templates. When we view the page in "Preview" mode, everything looks fine. Then I hit Publish, but I can't find the page "products_equipment.html" anywhere.

I'm not sure if this is a set up problem, a page template problem or what. In the utlities, our store is set to: http://www.ourdomainname.com/index.html and I expected to be able to set a link from index.html (which does not contain any ShopSite tags and is not a page generated by ShopSite) to the new "products_equipment.html" page, but it is not working. We can't seem to find the new "products_equipment.html" page anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Where in the page record did you put "products_equipment.html". In the Page Name field, or the Title field, or the File name field?

Then make sure you are in Advanced Editing mode and then Edit Page Contents and put it in the 'File name' field instead. The Page Name is for the display name of the page, so it would be something more like "Products and Equipment". It has nothing to do with the actual filename of the HTML page that is created. If you don't put a specific filename in the 'File name' field, then the filename of the HTML page that is published will be something generic like page1.html.

I knew it was something simple. So, with this change, when I publish it will publish the "products_equipment.html" page into the www.ourdomainname.com root directory? In other words, I could then view this page at www.ourdomainname.com/products_equipment.html?

Yes, assuming that your ShopSite licensed URL is the root of your site. If the license is issued for a subdirectory off of your domain name, then the file would probably instead be at http://yourdomain.com/subdir/products_equipment.html

Check the Preferences -> Hosting Service info setting labeled 'Store URL' to see what your licensed URL is.
