Is our site too difficult to refresh?

Postby Oldedit » Sat Oct 28, 2006 9:52 pm

Recently I tried to go to www.twinsmagazine.com on a dial up Windows 98 computer, and it was very slow.

This got me to wondering whether we've got too much stuff on our home page?

Are we losing customers because of the slow refresh and upload?

Do we need to reduce the graphics to get quicker uploads for dialup customers? The whole site is in Shopsite 8.1.

Looked at your very pretty main page. I'm seeing a ton of white space, a whole page's worth, below the main body and above the single row of links at the bottom. Using IE 7.0 , BTW

Did you compress the file size of the graphics on that page? Those "Twins" covers show about 30k to 46K. Huge.

I'm using [dual] 19" monitors and your rightmost column requires a bit
of scrolling to read.

Last I heard, about 50% of US still using dial up, especially home users. Our company only has dial up in our HQ which is in a suburb of Saint Louis, not a rural backwater. Cheap high speed just isn't available there. (web work is done from home)

Yikes, switched to dial up. Took about 5 minutes to fully load.

That's probably hurting your search engine indexing, too.
