Can a custom template be created so it limits the size of the image on the more information page?

You can change the attributes of the image under Images=> Edit Image Attributes. There you can set the image to whatever size you want.

On a custom template you can specify whatever you want for the image attributes as well.

However, the best solution is to create an image exactly the size you want and use it in its natural state. It will look better, and load faster on your page.
