Does shopsite support a customer database so that the customer does not have
to re-enter all of their information every time they return? Or a customer
database that allows marketing emails or a customized "welcome back
[customer name]" on the homepage when they return?

ShopSite Pro (not Manager, not Starter) v7.0 and newer has a Customer
Registration feature. It can do all that you mention except marketing
emails, however there is a way for you to download the name and email of
all registered customers so that you can import it to your own email
marketing system.
