Search template?

I'm new to this group but have been using Shopsite for several clients in
the past, always using the Order Anywhere button to solve most of my needs.
I have a new client that has caused me to stretch my skills and have
incorporated custom page and product templates for her site.

We are using Shop Site 7.1 Manager.

I am looking to add a "search" function to the site. From what I can gather,
it looks as though I need to have a "Search page" that people can go to and
type in whatever it is they are searching for as oppossed to having a small
text field on every page where someone could type in a product name and be
taken to a page with the serach results. Am I correct in this understanding
or is there a way to create the text field on every page as I wish?

If so, how?

You can have a search text box on every page of the store (this would go
in the Page template and is created with the tag [-- SEARCH_FORM --]).
When someone enters a word in the search box they are taken to a search
results page. The search results page can have a custom template so
that it will match the rest of the store. Actually the search results
page requires 3 different templates. One for the general page layout,
one for the product layout and one for the format of the link that
points to the search destination page defined in the edit product info
screen of the backoffice. The default search templates in 7.1 format
the search results pretty much as they appeared in previous versions of
ShopSite but they can be customized how ever you would like.
