Add text input fields to products and pass to orders

Hi,

I know there is option for a single text input with orders. I'm wondering if there is a way to add 6 text input fields to a product and have the input passed along with the rest of the order data? Currently I'm using the extra fields in the checkout screen but this is not optimal for my needs. The input text values would change per product ordered - so having these fields in checkout would mean the customer having to place multiple orders.
