Looking for info regarding huge upgrade...

Postby skhpa » Mon Aug 10, 2015 9:33 am

Last year we did a huge upgrade - about 8 years worth of versions upgrade went fine and all is well.

But we've been looking at some of the new capabilities (that weren't in our original site setup/pages), like"
Menus & Categories !!!

We've looked at the tutorials and see how to add those functions to a NEW site.... but what about adding them to an existing (ok kind of dated looking) site / pages ?

Has anyone done this ? Do you have any tips ? Things to watch out for ?

Our questions are....

1. currently our index.html page has not been generated in Shopsite - we have to edit the html and upload to the server
so can we generate A NEW index page at this point in Shopsite ?

2. if we create menus and categories, how do we get those functions added to the existing pages ?
do we have to recreate each page ?

3. if we try one of the "themes," which of the responsive THEMES have you found to be most reliable ? The themes have a warning that you may loose some images / resized images or something like that.

HAS ANYONE ELSE DONE THIS ? Comments, tips, suggestions appreciated.... THANKS, skhpa

1. Create a page in ShopSite and name the filename something like index-test.html and then create it like you would any shopsite page. Once you are happy with it you can then rename it to index.html so that it will overwrite the existing one if you have ShopSite publish in your root doc directory and not in say a /store sub-directory.

2. You may have to recreate if those pages are not already in ShopSite. If they are then the Navigation feature may work for you. Try it out to see. You can enable and disable it to test with.

3. Where is this warning about losing images? If you are currently using a ShopSite theme you can switch to a new one, publish, and check that all appears well. If you don't like the new theme you could switch back to your existing one and then republish.

Thanks David !

The image issue I was referring to is in the Shopsite Help link from the backoffice manager - quoted below with link and path - I just didn't want to have to resize all these images - we have so many.

http://www.shopsite.com/help/12.0/en-US/sc/mgr/index.htm?page=/help/12.0/en-US/sc/mgr/dashboard.html

Screen: ShopSite > Preferences > Layout & Color Theme

Note: Some themes may change the default image sizes. If your image sizes change when you select a new theme, they can be set back on a product-by-product or power edit basis.
