Dimensional Shipping

Postby xylemdesign » Wed Apr 01, 2015 10:47 am

Hello,

We recently upgraded to shopsite V12 SP1 from V11 and I have been looking for somewhere that better explains how the FedEx dimensional shipping works through shopsite. All of our products have the shipping dimensions and weights filled in, will this be adequate for the FedEx calculations? I'm getting some very interesting shipping prices. Is there any where that better explains how it works?

Thanks for reading

New fields were added to the product for Item size and shipping dimensions on the Edit Product Info screen below the weight field.

The Item Size length, width, height are used if the product can be combined with other products in a single package when shipping.
The Shipping Dimensions, length, width, height are used if a product must be shipped in its own container.

On the Commerce Setup > Shipping > Fedex config screen new fields were added for maximum container size and dimensions to reserve for packing materials. If you have multiple products that are not do not need to ship in their own container they will be combined into a single package that will use the dimension specified in this area. The Item Size settings for the products will be used to calculate how many items can be put in a single box up to the maximum size specified on the Fedex config screen with allowance for space reserved for packing materials.

ShopSite passes to Fedex the dimensions of the package(s) along with the weight(s) of the product(s) and Fedex uses that information to compute the dimensional weight used for rates.

Note: similar settings were also added for UPS and USPS shipping methods.
