Duplicate order numbers knocks out one of the orders

Postby silken » Tue Dec 02, 2014 10:56 pm

I entered an order for a customer and the order number was #10463. I received a receipt through email.

The next morning, a different customer entered an order on our site and her order number was also #10463. When my shipping person came in to process orders, she found that the first order #10463 had disappeared from the list of orders, but the second one was there.

I have never seen this happen before, but I am concerned that it might be happening without my knowledge. After all, the only reason I knew it had happened was because I had entered the first one myself. Every once in a while a customer will write to say that they submitted an order but had not gotten any confirmation. I have always chalked this up to operator error on their part, but now I am wondering...

Can you help?
Thanks,
Debbie

Sounds like during the time between when the first shopper placed their order and the second shopper placed their order, the ShopSite data files were overwritten with old versions from the time before the first shopper placed their order. The ShopSite application couldn't have done this, it does not keep duplicate copies of your data. So either the host restored some old files, or someone with access to your account did. If you or someone who works with/for you downloads and uploads files en masse from your site, make sure you are NOT touching the ShopSite data directory when you do this, or you could be overwriting the data with old stuff that you had previously downloaded.
