How do I disable the site entirely?

Postby ISAS » Thu Jul 03, 2014 8:06 am

Hi all,

I've attempted to use the search function on this forum, but it keeps telling me I can't use it when I'm scrolling through pages of irrelevant search hits.

I need to disable our ShopSite so we can update sales tax settings for literally hundreds of items. We need to stop sales until that is set up and it will take a couple weeks since this is hitting right before the a holiday. Is there an easy way to do this within the ShopSite software? I saw one post that talked about server access (which I do not have—those people are already on vacation).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've also search the ShopSite Help and the interwebs but have yet to find a workable solution.

There is not a built in way to just turn off a website. If you had access to the server your store is on you could remove the authorization file for your site and that would prevent any activity on the site including ordering and being able to do anything in the back office of the store such as changing the tax rates.

Without access to the server about the only thing that you could do is to change your main page so that it doesn't link to any other pages on your site. That way if someone comes to your main url they can't access the other pages. However, if they do a web search and click on a link from those search results they could still get access to pages where they could order.

What type of tax are you using? I don't know why it would take weeks to update the tax for hundreds of items. It should just be a matter of downloading the product information in a tab delimited format, (Utilities > Database > Download) , making the changes in a spread sheet application like Excel or Open Office and then re-uploading (Utilities > Database > Upload) the file to your store again.
