One gift certificate per order?

I want to reward customers with gift certificates that I generate as the merchant. I'm happy to generate them by hand.

I tried giving some of my best customers a handful of $10 gift certificates and I ASSUMED (wrongly) they would use a $10 one on their first order, and then use the 2nd $10 certificate on a subsequent order. My thinking was they would need to make multiple shopping trips to my store over the next few months to keep using them up.

However it seems they can use more than 1 gift certificate on an order so they used ALL their gift certificates on the first order, essentially getting it for free which was NOT my intention.

Is there a way to limit it to ONE gift certificate per order?

I'm using ShopSite® Pro 11 sp2 r4.

Sorry, there is no way to limit gift certificates to one per order. A gift certificate is just like money as a means of payment. Would you want someone to only be able to use one $10.00 bill per order?

The better way to reward customers would be to give them a coupon for $10 off of an order. You can limit the number of coupons that can be used on an order to just one so that way they would have to use the multiple ones you give them on different orders.

The multiple coupons is a good idea, so would be me just giving them one $10 gift certificate per calendar quarter.
