Search Text on More Info page

Postby djhht » Mon Jun 25, 2012 9:20 am

I have updated the more info page of a product and published. I even did a regeneration, but the text that I updated is not coming up in Search. I have the Search Settings>Search Indexing>More Info Text box checked. The original text on the page still shows up in search results, but the text I updated does not. What else can I try to get the text that I added to show up in Search Results?

When you Publish, do you have "Index for search during update" checked?

Is the product assigned to a page that has the checkbox to "Index" the page checked? (Pages > Edit Page Content near the bottom of the screen)
Does the product have a search destination configure? ( Products > Edit Product Info > Search Destination:)

Yes, I looked at all these things and it is okay. The product does show up in search for all the content that was previously on the page, but the new content that was added does not deliver this item in search.

This is the product http://www.homehealthtesting.com/home-drug-test-way-urine-test-p-102.html

if you search for "valium" then this product shows up in the search results because we have had that word on the page since the start of our site, however all the text was recently added to the more info page to include many other drugs the test will test for like "Amytal" does not show up in search.

I don't understand what I am missing since the search works, but just not for updated text on the more info page.

Is the moreinfo page for the product, "12 Panel Drug Test Strip", "http://www.homehealthtesting.com/home-drug-test-way-urine-test-p-102.html"?
If so, the word "Amytal" is not on that page? At least my browser doesn't find it when I do a search for the word on the page.

The word "Amytal" does appear on the tab "Test for These Drugs" but evidently that isn't part of the ShopSite page. How are you adding the content to that tab?

If it is coming from an include file it will not be indexed. It would have to be in one of the product text field,or one of the extra product fields, and you would have to make sure that you have that field indexed on the Preferences > Search Settings > Search Indexing.

can you find "amytal" on this page http://www.homehealthtesting.com/barbiturates-drug-test-way-urine-test-p-77.html
because this item shows in the search results with the same on page setup

I am using SpryTabbedPanels to make the tabs and all the text appears in the html

Yes, I press ctrl-F and type amytal and it is on the page, it is in the text "... The most commonly used - named barbiturates are Amytal, Nembutal and Seconal. Barbiturates are classified as ultrashort, short, intermediate, and long-acting. ..."

Note that this is on the first tab, "Information", that displays when the page loads. In the other case the table of items was on a secondary tab.

What product field in ShopSite contains the table that displays on the tab "Test for These Drugs" ? It starts with this text:
Code: Select all
12 Panel Drug Strip tests For These Drugs
Adderall    Dexedrine    MDMA    Prazepam
Adderall XR  ...

Sorry, I gave you a name that is on both tabs. If you search for "Butisol" it returns the
http://www.homehealthtesting.com/barbiturates-drug-test-way-urine-test-p-77.html and that word appears on the tab "Tests for These Drugs"

however that same drug is on this tab on this page and does not show up in the results
http://www.homehealthtesting.com/home-drug-test-way-urine-test-p-102.html

The text for all the tabs are all in the " More Info Page Text:" which I have checked in Search Indexing with a 10 relevance.

This has always worked in the past, but for some reason when I updated this page this time, the text is not in search.

Are your changes actually being made to the published page? Perhaps the page name has changed and you are looking at an old version of the page instead of the one that is actually being changed?
Check again that the product doesn't have a duplicate in the product list, maybe you are changing one and that isn't the one that is assigned to the page.

Try making a copy of the product giving it a slightly different name and assign that product to a page and publish and see if that one can be found.

Do you have your store set to index numbers? Maybe the number in the name is causing an issue.

Just trying to cover all the bases with these questions.

I don't think the search index is being updated when I publish or when I regenerate. Is there a way to check this?

I just turned on set to index numbers and regenerated. If you search for 12 or 5 or 4, no items are returned, however they are all returned if you search for "panel"

All old text shows up in search results, but if I update any product with new content on the page it does not index the new content.

On the Utilities > Publish screen there is a check box "Index for search during update"
If that is not checked the store will not be reindex so new changes won't appear in search results. So make sure that it is checked and then click the Regnerate button at the bottom of the screen to publish the pages and create new search indexes.

I already have that checked. How can we confirm it is happening?

During the publish it outputs info to the screen like
Code: Select all
Generating Page [1:Past Bobbin of Month]...

Generating Page [2:BeeUtahful Bobbins]...
Adding Product [!sale test]...
. . .
Generating Page [40:Spangles]...
Adding Product [Crystal Bead Spangle]...
Adding Product [Semi-Precious Stone Spangle]...
Adding Product [Glass Bead Spangle]...
Adding Product [Porcelain Spangle]...
Adding Product [Glass Bead Spangle]...

Index All

Indexing Products 0-511

Indexing Page [1:Past Bobbin of Month]...
Indexing Page [2:BeeUtahful Bobbins]...
Indexing Page [3:Woods]...
Indexing Page [4:Bobbins]...
Indexing Page [5:About Us]...
Indexing Page [6:Specials]...
Indexing Page [7:Wire wrapped bobbins]...
Indexing Page [8:Specialty bobbins]...
Unindexing Page [9]...
Indexing Page [10:Bone Bobbins]...
Indexing Page [11:Arachne images]...

See if the page that the product is on is listed as one of the Generating page {xx...] and Indexing Page [... ].. items.

Thanks for sticking with this ... I don't understand why this is not working when it always has in the past.

I just did the Regenerate and I get the

Generating Page [31:Urine Drug Test Kits]...
Adding Product [Marijuana Drug Test | THC Test]...
Adding Product [12 Panel Drug Test Strip]...

and this is at the end

Index: No store page has a search field; indexing not performed.
