Is the Sale On flag the only determining factor of the amount that gets sent to the cart?
I changed my template to look at the value of the Sale Amount to see if it was zero and then to default to the price. That all works fine until you add the product to the cart. The cart shows zero. Funny, the SS code process for pricing looks to see if the Sale.Amount is present but doesn't check for zero value.

Yes the Sale On flag is what determines if the shopping cart will use the sale or regular price. On adding an item to the cart it checks to see if the On Sale Price value is empty and if it is then the regular price is used but if there is any value in the On Sale Price then that value will be used. Empty and 0 are not the same thing in this case.
