creating thumpnail images

Postby jarodgan » Thu Feb 15, 2007 8:44 pm

hi

how do you create thumpnail images that appear on store page to be consistence in size. our original images are in various sizes. editing these images one by one in photoshop is taking lots of time.

is there any special software that can automate this. we want to have the images in square 190x190 pixel with white background.

thank you

You can do this in image editing software such as PhotoShop, PhotoPaint etc. You could also upgrade to ShopSite 8.2 which allows creation of up to 3 different size images when you upload the image or by selecting it after the upload and specifying that you want the images create. ShopSite will resize the images to the largest dimension specified but I do not believe that it will fill the background with a color if it doesn't fit perfectly in the size specified. E.G. if the image you upload is 200 x 150 and you say to put it in a 100 x 100 box the resulting image will be 100 x 75 since it will fill the largest dimension and maintain the perportions of the image.

The images can then be used as product images, product moreinfo image, as the product image on search results or in the shopping cart.

I use a freeware program called Mihov Image Resizer (http://www.imageresizer.com/) to create all of the thumbnails that we use on shopsite. The program is works in a batch mode and is able to resize hundreds of images with just a few clicks.

I am not sure that the Mihov Image Resizer will meet all of you needs since it does not have the option to resize the image canvas. The program that I use to do this is PhotoFiltre (http://www.photofiltre.com/), also freeware. It is much more limited than Photoshop, but also much faster and easier to use.

I hope that this helps.
